There's no point in telling an artist that trashes his own work "well actually it's kinda good I like it".

It doesn't really matter what you think. If he's the real deal, he knows that he knows better than you. Opinions are irrelevant.

You might send the signal that you support him and that's great, but you're wrong on the fact of matter. It's not good. It should be better and you can't change his mind.
