I should start making more soups again. Super easy and economical.

Winter and fall are the best seasons for soup.

I used to frequently make a big batch of chili and portion it out. I need to start doing that again. Gotta buy some more food containers.

A few years back I tried keeping a “perpetual stew” where I left it going in a slow cooker one low and every time I ate a cup I replaced it with a cup of raw ingredients. Worked great for quite some time until one day I added a spice mix that ruined it.

That’s so awesome. When we go hunting, we have a similar pot that stays either outside freezing or on the woodstove in the army tent. Grouse, rabbit, deer backstrap or tenderloin, canned goods, broths, and soups get added. It’s such a treat to have hot food after stalking and sitting on cut lines all day. We call it “forever stew”.

🤔

Lately I’ve been freezing homemade soup flat in Ziplock bags. Then once frozen, I cut the Ziplock bags in half with a large chef’s knife, and vacuum seal each half with the bag material still on, for placement back in the freezer.
