I still don't know how nostr would avoid government interference. #asknostr

Let's say the UK (or some other) government cared about Nostr not complying with their laws, they would go after clients, right? These clients would more than likely comply. Which I don't blame them for obviously.

Considering the structure of Nostr, would they also go after relays?

What is a workaround for this?

More clients? This would just mean more places to be taken down?

Could you have a website that instantly forked eg Damus or Amethyst? So it would on the fly make a new client cloned from these as a New Client apk each time like it was a new client each time?

I'm using 'vibecode' here but I barely understand and it may be the wrong term lol

It's actually pretty easy to vibecode a simple Nostr app these days, and it will only get easier. The govt is fucked.

But could you make a website that is just a button that says clone me a nostr client. And it will clone amethyst or Damus or jumble and make a 'unique' cloned client each time? Press button, client is cloned and apk is posted to git hub. Oh actually this doesn't work for Apple users but still.

Also isn't it a matter of time till APKs are banned? How about phones which don't even allow a different OS?

It can be just a web page. Jumble.social like.

Yes, it could make a cloned webpage each time and then it prompts make a PWA..?

I don't know lol. I don't think it's as easy as that as someone would need to host all of this lol

You can run it straight from your own machine, no hosting necessary.

All these are open source.

There is a clone button (“fork”) on the code repo of each of these apps.

This means that you and anyone can infinitely reproduce and deploy the code.

For free, meaning any modern computer, an internet connection, and free will.

Sure but I wonder if it would be good as a nice big button that is plug n play forming ;)

It’s not about cloning clients. It’s about exploring the entire terrain of “nostr for X” the way VCs did “Uber for X” in the 2010s.

We collectively don’t know which applications of the relay-self-signed network mental model will truly disrupt the old central-ID-email-password network model of the prior generation.

“Sign in with nostr extension or nsec” is just beginning

Sure, that's more longterm, I was thinking about the short-term mostly here cos it could very well be around the corner for the Brits and Euros

Perhaps, but most people still have no idea what you are talking about...

Nostr avoids government interference by flying under the radar, as far as I can tell....?

I've got the template for the UK govt if I'm ever contacted about my relay.

If this were the case why did gab (etc) comply?

They're pussies. 4chan isn't, they're fighting it in court.

That's cos they're CIA lol

and how did that approach work out for gottfrid again?

Ofcom can suckle my left nut.

In the latest citadel dispatch nostr:nprofile1qqs8nsk2uy2w529fs8n4tx60u7z553e4yx5dy2nxhw4elgjgawpqlaspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43q4hag5n showed an AI agent that constructs clients on the fly.

This solves the client problem.

For the relays, if they can't stop torrenting, they can't stop relays.

But was are the realistic worse case scenarios and what are the realistic workarounds?

Govs go after clients

Govs go after relays

Govs go after media hosts (eg nostrbuild)

The last one seems the most easy to attack, there's barely any of those.

Are you really free from your government if you're constantly running away? How is that any different from our current lives? That's not to say that you should sit down and shut up, but what are we doing to actually improve our quality of life?

Relays are the problem for censorship resistance, much more than clients.

Those relays that are over 🧅 aren’t at risk if set properly. Sad that we have only few and they are well traced 🤷‍♂️

Right, that's going to be the test, running relays on anonymizing networks.

you can always use nostr.band ..?

this ban or biometrical verification is about the shaping of digital identity I guess

What I'd nostrbuild was pressured by a gov? Tbh that's the most likely thing to happen as they're media hosts
