I'm most partial to the idea that AZT was responsible for the majority of the perceived crisis. That and mis-attributing other factors such as severe malnutrition. When is their 'cure' not more harmful than the disease they claim to be treating?

And definitely many factors behind it, which IMO is why they went with 'syndrome' since that generally implies multiple causes, or at least that's how I always took it to mean. Exactly right, they always come in with some sort of narrative to go along with their agendas.
Also, he is completely misusing "theory". If anything, the claim that "HIV causes AIDS" may not be a theory because it is still a hypothesis.
