I'm confused, I have been running 50+ relays for years, everyone have been saying to me it was a bad idea. Why is it OK now to run 186? What changed?
It is bad to have 50 relays in your lists (ideally you want just 3), but apps can connect to as many relays as you want. :) Amethyst will just manage that automatically for you now.
I right in assuming that number represents the total count of distinct relays from the combined inboxes and outboxes of the people I follow? I feel like I'm following a decent number of people, but my current relay connection count is only 10. Even if most people primarily use large relays, if I follow over a hundred people, shouldn't the number of distinct relays be well over 10?
Yep. It all depends on where your follows are posting. The app will look for their posts in wherever relay they prefer.
