Today I took a grab (Thai version of Uber) and when I got in the car the driver asked if he could cancel the booking and drive me there for a discount. Turns out Grab charges the driver 35% 🤯

There should be a nostr-native version using WoT to cut out the middleman. Has anyone started/built one?

Hi, can we get along?

I didn’t think of that 🤣

There is this thing in Bangalore called Namma Yatri that doesn't charge any fees per ride and instead the drivers pay a subscription fee per month to use the platform. It's a government sponsored initiative but the codebase is open source and maintained by a private company

I have been meaning to take a lot at it forever but never did

Hmm, weird setup. Does it work well? But I think a free market would be better

The app works pretty well user experience wise

I had to build / maintain source code for a company that behaved in a very similar way as Uber. The company abandoned the source code, and we had to depend on other companies services to get it all working.

The mapping software seemed like the hardest problem to solve as roads are ever changing, new housing complexes going in, zip code changes, etc.

Of course geohashing is a thing now, and/or integration with google maps could work.

Finding available drivers is a fun problem to solve...

I dunno.

Yeah I think the hardest part actually is to get users, not write the code 🤔

I avoid Grab or Bolt and use regular taxis or motorbike taxis "motosai" or songthaew/สองแถว

Both because it's cheaper and to avoid surveillance

WoT is a good start; but, to really be useful, a Nostr-based service is going to require a much more robust npub rating system (this goes for pretty much any market on Nostr intended for the masses).

35% !?

Fucking insane!
