a frequent opensats criticism is that we do not publicly disclose grant amounts

this is for the privacy of the contributors we support

our hundreds of grant recipients are welcome to voluntarily disclose their own amounts, most have not, which speaks for itself

As long as we know who are the recievers, privacy is not maintained

Take aside the privacy element - what would be the reason for publicly disclosing anyway?

it is a balancing act between transparency and privacy

so we publish recipients but not amounts

Tiers in chunks of 10 million Sats or smaller / larger?

Transparency. You'd have to ask why that matters in this instance to each person who cares. I just donate directly to people and don't worry about any of it.

I hereby disclose I have received zero sats from opensats (wtf bro)

Yo - www.upforever.co.uk is raising funds for OpenSats.

Makes sense

No need to disclose amounts. If people who donate to OpenSats don't trust opensats, they don't have to donate through it. They can donate directly. Dev privacy is important.

Makes sense. I support your rationale.

I think the level of transparency open sats shows is phenomenal. I’ve looked into a lot of nonprofit tax filings over the years and was shocked at how much money board members earn. A lot of abuse happens in the nonprofits sector which is why I don’t donate anymore. Meanwhile, no one at open sats is claiming any form of compensation except for Gigi. And he’s not making a crazy amount either. This level of commitment goes beyond what 99% of nonprofits do. I trust the integrity and judgment of open sats. You’re not perfect, but I still feel donations to this organization are a net positive for freedom.

Thanks for addressing this, but I'm surprised it needs to be explained to any bitcoiners.

I don’t feel any skepticism based on the sheer amount of work being done. The proof of work indicates capital being effectively used. It’s very much a “make a lot happen with little needed”

What's required of applicants to opensats? Can devs applying remain anonymous or do they have to submit identifying info to OS?

as a non profit we need to collect tax info but you can submit under an llc

Okay, but LLC would still have to have actual name, correct?

grant analysts everywhere 💀

All good, I love lack of transparency because it lessens accountability

I learn this from nostr
