Two stories my wife told me today that highlight, firstly, why I love her, and secondly our need to be the solution to problems.

The first story was that her elderly mother had lost consciousness and hit her head badly yesterday, waking up surrounded by people. 45 minutes later the ambulance had still not arrived, so one of the people helping called the ambulance, cancelled it and drove her to hospital, returning to her home to get her husband too.

The second story involved my wife at the ophthalmologists. She had drops in her eyes that made her vision too blurry to drive and as she left she observed an old man, who'd also been at the eye dr's weaving and stumbling down the street. She introduced herself and mentioned they had been at the same Dr, and she asked if he could see. He admitted he was having difficulty, so she walked him to his bus stop and waited with him until he got on, having a chat with him while they waited.

A small amount of kindness goes a long way to making the world a better place.

Ambulance stuff is weird man. We found out friend attacked by thieves. Jump in car, drive over and find him pissing blood out surrounded by people talking about calling an ambulance. Bloody absurd. I would not be surprised if they were still discussing options after I’d bundled him into my car and taken off at high speed. Very weird experience

Yeah that's strange, the ambulance wait times can be long, but at least give them a chance by calling one for him.

i have first aid training - had to do it for a body piercing certificate back about 13 years ago... stop the bleeding, put the patient in a reclined position with the head turned sideways to ensure no internal obstruction, firmly bandage up the wound with preferably bandages but whatever you can find that will keep it held firmly (not too tight) and if you need to move them, try to put them on a flat, stiff object like a board or at least maybe jury rig together a couple poles and a tarp or so if you need to load them into a car, and drive that car real gentle as fast as possible to somewhere you can get their holes stitched together

stopping the bleeding is the first and most important thing, second is make sure if they do go unconscious they won't choke on their own tongue, third is don't move them around if you can avoid it and if you must, try to get them somewhere more permanent surgical interventions can be done

really, this is stuff that should be taught to everyone at school

Totally agree, it's a vital life skill in our society. Some schools are doing it, my kids are in primary school and did a kids course in class.
