I'm thrilled at the resurgance of young men pursuing marriage and/or taking marriage more seriously.

But don't be deceived: marriage is hard. Yes, it is good, and holy, and can come with innumerable blessings. But don't romanticize it (so to speak); when two sinners vow to live their lives in such close proximity, there's nowhere to hide. It takes humility, it takes sacrifice, it takes forgiving and being forgiven.

Go for it--but be ready. There's a reason for the vow--and not the soy-boy, fiat, non-committal "for as long as love shall last" hogwash--it's "until death parts us."

We're not used to working hard in the west so since marriage is hard work, they don't last, everyone just quits.

True. Marriage gets even better on the other side of difficulty. Difficulty + perseverance = strength & growth. So many 'jump' just before things could get better than they can imagine.

Guess that's what 'swipe right' trains people for: quitting, taking the easy path, treating others like a to-be-rated consumer product.

yeah? well, first things FIRST:

ack.

Choosing your spouse wisely needs to be normalized more.

Some people go by looks, how much fun they have together, bank account, or something else that’s superficial and/or ephemeral.

In my opinion, one should pick a spouse that is strong in all of their areas of weakness.

This means knowing yourself, first.

And when I ask around, I’m shocked at how little people know themselves. They’re too afraid to peer into the darkness of the mirror. And so they don’t grow. They just keep distracting themselves and repeating mistakes.

Where did all of the wise men and women go? When did they lose their status amongst the youth?

We’ve got to bring that back.

Amen brother

Everyone should read the book of Proverbs carefully in general, but specifically before finding a wife.

AMEN. It's a gold mine of potentially life-saving wisdom--especially for young men.

When I came back to the faith and read Proverbs again, I thought, 'Wow, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble if I had paid attention when I read this as a kid!' 😂
