My microwave, which I use every single day by the way, has 11 buttons. Never once, in my entire life, have I used any of those buttons besides the "+30 seconds" one. Am I missing something?

I use the power settings quite a bit, it refers to the time when the magnetron is on while the plate is spinning. If I'm reheating leftovers it's nice to not nuke it entirely. Lower power using longer cook times

Nope--not missing a thing...
Only reason I use the number pad is to set the time.
Five 30 second taps gets me a hot cup of coffee, using my "standard" mug...
Anything else is superfluous...
