Wot can only lead to an echo chamber because even if you use the most permissible slidder setting then all the signal of quality will still come from the people you already know. Anything outside of that will be swamped out by noise.
Pow is a universal signal of quality (just a signal not a guarrantee). That makes it possible to trancend then limitations of your current wot
If spam is not economically viable, pow works. I think spam is not economically viable. Its not a working advertising method.

Millennials on the whole, love exclusivity and censorship. Even, or perhaps especially, the ones who espouse freedom. They also cannot resist automation. They are complete suckers for it. Hence WoT, and how “smart” it is.
I was thinking of WoT by allowing up to 2 or 3 degrees of separation.
If you found a bot or bad npub, the client would tell you which WoT chain allowed you to see it and you could then manually distrust that contact.
It's known that you are connected to everyone else in the world by 7 degrees of separation. So choosing 2 or 3 as default, should be more than enough to break any echo chamber.
A good point about the exponential broadening of the wot as you explore several degrees outward.
I don't think that 7 figure is solidly established but there might be something to it.
The issue is that if you expand your wot this way you'll have so many posts "inside" that you will want a way to rank them. That ranking will most likely get you in the hugbox since most of the people in the wot will be close to you ideologically (even if some outside voices manage to get in because you've allowed a couple extra degrees)
