Happiness is a feeling, and we can't always control our own feelings.
Optimism isn't a delusion. That said, pessimist can never be negatively surprised.

If youâre an ugly duckling and you optimistically believe that youâre gonna win the miss America pageant tomorrow⌠or that you can currently afford a new Mercedes on minimum wage, or that your risk of myocarditis doesnât go up when you take an experimental injection thatâs proven to increase myocarditis rates âetc etc. then thatâs bullshit.
