Focus on shipping something. Pick a thing and build it. Ship fast and frequently. Ship on day 1 if possible. Learn while shipping it. Don't wait to learn everything before starting to build. Your assumptions will be wrong majority of the time. Don't be afraid of deleting your code. Watch for assumptions. Look for evidence. Debug every line. Usability is the king. Performance is the queen. Keep things simple. And have fun.

There's a subtle difference between focusing on a thing and bringing our attention to it. Attention being more encompassing and fluid. In meditation, in the Yoga Sutra, it's called Samyama.
