Whoo, the weekend warrior kicked in this weekend.

Today- transplanted a couple Oak trees from the woods to the front yard. Sprinkled some cover crop seed around the front flower beds to try and inhibit the encroaching Bermuda grass. Mulched some of the garden pathways. Added cover crop seed to the raised beds (way late). Split up some comfrey and planted along the garden edge where the grass meets the garden. Trying to take more preventative steps to hold back the Bermuda.

Saturday- planted a plot of carrots and put some hay bales around to make a mini greenhouse. Planted some snap peas next to them with a clear plastic tote over them to protect from frost. Planted 2 Bing cherry trees and an Asian pear. Attempted grafting the Asian pear on some of the other pears. Started some flower seeds the kids picked out. I let them do most of the work so they can get some exp in the process. Started black locust seeds.

I am WHOOPED!

You killed it! Curious to know about what size oak trees you transplanted.

One was about 4ft tall. I pruned off most of the lateral branches and was able to get about a foot and a half of the tap root and some good feeder roots. The other was a tiny sapling that was growing next to it. I’m skeptical if that one will make it but it had quite a bit of roots in tact so I may get lucky. The key is to sever the roots about a 1.5ft around then dig around the outside of those cuts. Once your a shovel head deep you can scrape the soil from the roots with your hands to try and minimize the damage.

Nice. I've transplanted a few yaupons growing wild on our property, to move closer to the house. A few died, but i have several that survived.

Do yaupons grow wild on your property?

I’ve had very good success with transplanting smooth sumac and eastern redbud. I’ve hardly done anything to them and they just take off.

We have lots and lots and lots of wild yaupon! Some folks around here get goats to control it, but i like it. I've made yaupon tea and its great.

Oh nice! They make good landscape plants too. I like transplanting things from the back. Saves money and time.

Busy man! You’re a motivation for me to get in gear as soon as the weather warms a bit.

The cold weather helps me. If I’m cold I have to move and do stuff to warm up. The heat simply zaps me.
