I made a batch of dehydrated apple chunks today. What's pictured + a full pint: 0.5 lbs in total. Anyone want to guess how many lbs of apples went into this?

10 lbs?

Nope only 3.5 lbs, and the apples were only $1/lb. So $3 for 8 ounces isn't too bad.

Of course after the hour of labor and the power to run the dehydrator for 12 hours, it suddenly looks a lot more expensive. That's why I only make enough for my household. Nobody is going to pay $2/oz for dehydrated apple chunks. 😂

/me checks online for price of dehydrated apple chunks: $12.47 for a 4oz bag, and even those sre "unsvailable". 🤔 Huh, maybe there is a market here after all...

There's a miner for every dehydration job....😄

I have some dehydrated water but I don't know what to add to it....

I've done the next variety of apples: Fuji

They're better tasting and because they were bigger, I got more weight for the same number of apples! 🧑‍🍳💋

Ratio of input to output is almost identical. I figured it'd vary a little as the smaller apples would be a higher proportion of apple cores, but apparently not.

Next up: more pink lady apples. They'll be done tomorrow, but tomorrow is cooking day so I probably won't have time to post any pictures.
