That's the beauty of having the option of being your own bank: if you don't want to you don't have to. There's any number of custodial services that will do that for you. And you get to enjoy all of the counterparty risk associated with them.
Yup. Which is why I’ve never felt “be your own bank” is a strong talking point in an orange pill situation.
Most people want to “control their money” but not actually start a financial business and wear a suit to work every day, which is the implication of being a bank for the majority of people.
I wouldn't say banks per se are the bad guys. The current banking system, yes. But a full reserve bank for example offers a valueable service for people. But in this current system they aren't even allowed to operate
