Another point that may be related: I think women would be surprised how invisible they would feel as a dude. We maybe get ~5 compliments from different women in our entire *lifetime* and each one is genuinely shocking. Women don’t realize how impactful that can be to a guy, even when it seems so trivial. I always wondered how things like this might impact the differences in our subjective experiences.

The point is if guy is given a compliment, he very, very often expects it leading to sex. I'd suggest, that that is a nice manifestation of the exposure bias.
On the few occasions men do get compliments, the end result often is sex or at the very least increased sexual tension.
It's the other way around. Men usually don't get compliments and when they do it's often in a situation where sexual tension is already abnormally high, or the intention is to increase it.
The other, arguably more prevalent alternative is, that a request for a favor will follow shortly after the compliment.

It’s true. Men need such little encouragement to make us feel like we’re absolute champions. A simple gesture such as a “thank you” or “I appreciate you” can have long lasting positive effects for our psyche. It’s weird but it’s true.

I probably got +1.5 -1000 so far in my life. The most recent 0.5 was like "you are smart, but stubborn". There is always a "but" after any compliments. For me it feels more like a code review (behavior review) instead of a compliment.
