if they had taken responsibility then I'd respect that, they didn't
I don't really think it does any good to hold shit like that against my parents. I try to appreciate the fact that they did the best they knew how & raised kids that are smart enough to break the cycle of dumb shit to whatever degree our awareness is sufficient to do so.

I do not know the story. But there are also cases where the best people can do is be so shitty that you don't want to be them.
yeah. it's really hard for lots of people to take when they hear criticism of parents by an adult child but sometimes some people just should not be parents and the fallout from it is life altering.
there is some good that came from what happened to me but that still doesn't excuse blatant willful harm and a lack of remorse.
narcissistic personality disorder is not a recipe for being a functional parent.
