Does anyone know if it's possible to port my @npub.cash address to Minibits instead of Cashu Wallet? Or am I limited to my @minibits.cash address in Minibits? #AskNostr

prob limited yep, those are just bolt12 alias things.. so not likely one would have settings to point elsewhere

I figured as much. I didn't see any settings on the npub.cash site to determine where the address went to, but I figured I'd ask. It just sucks because I paid the money for the npub.cash address before fully understanding how it worked in conjunction with Cashu Wallet. It turns out I really don't like Cashu Wallet, and so I switched to Minibits, which is great. Oh well, it was just 5k sats 🤷‍♂️ It'll just remain dormant until I use Cashu Wallet again, if I ever do.

never leave your nuts in the mint, or are you nodeless?

or at least, swap em to mints youll keep using

Naaa, I already swept any remaining sats out of Cashu and put them in Minibits. I don't like leaving sats in unused wallets because I forget about them. So, I have a habit of sweeping remaining sats so that only my active wallet is holding anything.

not bolt12 yet, but yeah, just a series of api calls to figure out how to generate an invoice.

till bolt12 is more used, anyway, you get the point 😂

do you control a VPS attached to a domain?

No, not at the moment.

a text file placed under /.well-known/lnurlp can alias your minibits address to whatever you want. in the below example, payments made to gushinggranny@apathy.tv get redirected to the bullshit name they gave me for free. you can do this with any other custodial lightning wallet service that has LNURL handles. they all store the information in the same way and you just point your thing at theirs.

in much the same way you can have your nostr identity under your own domain.

when someone is provisioning a LNURL address or a nostr handle on their domain, all they are doing is adding an entry into a text file. sometimes they charge multiple dollars for like 100 bytes of web storage. you might as well get one of those cheapie little $5 VPS subscriptions and a domain. they are very useful for all sorts of things.

I knew about this provisioning for NIP-05 addresses, but not for LN addresses. So, if I had a domain, say slcw.com, I could create a LN address that essentially redirected to some other custodial lightning address?

yes! doesn't even matter if you use minibits or strike or anyone else. you can always do that. you can even have multiple aliases for the same minibits address. you just need a domain and a VPS with a functioning web server.

now would you please stop zapping me. I am just going to spend it all on ethereum and monero

Lol OK. I can't zap XMR so I just went with what I got.
