The #Alby wallet is about to become one of the main tools on the #LightningNetwork (#Bitcoin 2nd Layer), especially when we talk about payment channels.

Having your own Payment Channel is Financial Sovereignty

By establishing our own payment channel, we are creating routes that allow for instant, secure and almost cost-free transactions.

This is vital because each channel increases the liquidity of the network, facilitating payments for anyone, anywhere in the world.

With a payment channel on the Lightning Network, we have full control over our funds.

By using our #TOR ONION address, we can access and use our satoshis at any time, maintaining extreme privacy and security anywhere in the WORLD!

Keeping the channel open not only ensures that we have constant liquidity for our transactions, but can also generate income through transaction fees paid by other users of our Channel, something that can be quite profitable as the network grows.

Here it is important to connect to at least 3 existing payment channels!

But why will Alby be predominant?

In the past, and still today, keeping payment channels balanced is a laborious task, leading many to close their channels.

This is because it requires us to balance the channel, which cannot be without Satoshis, among other issues!

With Alby, this job will be easier.

Alby is designed to automatically manage liquidity, eliminating the need for manual intervention and keeping your channels always operational.

The #AlbyHub promises to revolutionize the Lightning Network experience.

In the future, we will be able to log into websites, sign up for messages, and even participate in communities like Nostr, all while maintaining your privacy and without sharing your private keys.

Alby is not just a wallet; it is a bridge to a future where we have complete control over our payments, without the limitations of traditional financial systems.

I have channels that close once every 4-8 weeks. I don't do anything. I hardly zap. They just close. To reopen another channel, I have to drop another 250k sats, which usually I do not have in the "Savings" balance at the time, causing me to spend more.

I don't want to deal with that anymore.

Since I've been here, I've spent hundreds on sats, mostly to just keep those channels open. That's plenty to keep a channel open (and have it stay open!).

I, personally, at this time, do not want to spend anymore money on this.

I think Alby is great for a lot of things and is ready to scale, but as a new user, having to drop 250k sats every time a channel needs to open (because they keep closing!) gets old.

I hope what you're saying will alleviate that going forward.

Another channel closed in the last 48 hours on my node, and my node health is sitting at 12%.

I don't care. I've already informed support that I'm not spending any more money at this time, even if it means not being able to send or receive zaps.

All I wanted to do was send and receive zaps when signing up for Nostr. That's it. Nothing more.

Spending a decent chunk of cash to keep channels open regularly when I'm not the one causing them to close is not part of the expected user experience when onboarding a new user.

There's a gap between the perceived ongoing experience and the current reality. I'm glad to hear Alby is still working to close that gap, but I'm on the edge of leaving.

CoinOs is great if you just want zap capability. Either that or open a channel with someone on nostr for 100k, don't need to use an lsp if you don't want.

If you're on Android, I highly recommend Minibits Wallet. It supports Lightning and ecash. It provides you with a lightning address to receive zaps, and it fully supports NWC so you can connect your wallet to your client which gives you the ability to send zaps within the app without having to open a seperate wallet. It's free, and it's easy to use. Plus, none of the expenses or required maintenance associated with running a lightning node. Alternatively, you can use Coinos.io which provides basically the same functionality as Minibits except it's web-based so you can use it on all platforms.

I downloaded minibits in the last six weeks. The app kept crashing so I stopped using it. I'll take another look at coinos. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. Minibits encountered some random network related issues over the past weeks that caused the wallet to freeze for some users.

That should be solved now, so if you see fit you might check it again. Feel free to dm any issues.

best is to get a channel from an LSP. those typically stay open if there is some usage.

this is now also the default flow in Alby Hub.
