Sadly, I don't think cryptography is used or even known commonly enough to displace cryptocurrencies as "crypto". I'd love to be optimistic: when shitcoins finally die for good, they'll be forgotten by the normies. But I don't think those same normies will suddenly become aware of cryptography... And so the legacy of shitcoins will live on...
Sounds about right 👍
I want to claim the word back. I don't give a damn what normies think.
cryptocurrency = cryptographic currency. Bitcoin is mined by solving mathematical algorithms. I'm not sure the terms are mutually exclusive.
I would like to agree with the OP but terminology in this space has been whack since day one. With wallets not really being wallets, cold storage not really being cold storage and blockchain now being called decentralised ledger technologies.
I guess just let everyone call everything whatever they want and do your own thing. Works best, from experience.
The book Crypto on my shelf is still about cryptography, so definitely.
