You're likely thinking of something like an FPS/RTS hybrid, there have been attempts but those have been multiplayer. With modern engines and hardware it's certainly possible to get it done and I'd be very interested in that sort of thing too. Really the only tricky thing would be balance, I could easily see some kind of sci-fi sim being like that where you've got ship boarding and planetary combat among other things.

DEI devs only care about pumping a live service scam out as fast as possible so it's down to indies to try out stuff like that and see if it sticks, I can see the potential.

Yes like RTS but with the option to go down into 3rd person & first on every individual it should be a free camera anyone can move in any direction or snap to any unit. This would be more like an automated game I don't want to say idle because it wouldn't be I mean you make the plan & watch it play out but at anytime you can jump in & issue new orders.

I'm not trying to put it out like the typical rts because you wouldn't be so focused on base building that can all be preplanned if a specific mission type would involve you being requored to build one. Also as tactical as it is I wouldn't want it limited in one theme. It would be expanding throughout different time periods & scenarios. One mission your the irish mob trying to take over chicago in the 1960s, next could be during the holocaust & your the nazi army, next could be 5036 some futuristic age.

The goal is to give the option to play the mission, watch it play itself out, or watch & jump in at anytime. Like there could be you got the mission you assign the party team or army to it give them no tactical plan & let the ai make it's own decisions on how to accomplish the mission which at anytime you could jump in be like do this instead. This includes the option of controlling the character manually instead of issuing orders.
