This sparked a question.. Does mining vanity npubs skew the “New npubs created” data that we occasionally see? I still can’t remember where that data is from though…

😂 no. it would slow down your minding by a lot to make and publish an event with the discarded pubkeys

Okay so that data is taking data from keys that are publishing events. That makes sense. If I would have thought about it for like 5 more seconds that would have dawned on me. But alas, I’m an idiot.

All keys already exist, they just have to be discovered. Presumably the “new npubs created” metric is more so a “first time seeing this npub publish an event”
