Why isn't this functionality in the official app?
There is no such thing as an official application. There are clients that connect relays. You can build your client.
Fork isn't quite right for dev Vitor Pamplona's tastes, he's said he would accept the code changes if the Monero community would offer code that's more minimal and just links to an external wallet (in line with how Amethyst already doesn't have a built-in wallet for zaps)
I'm using the mostard client, which also has the Monero tipping feature. I see the Monero icon highlighted on your post. I haven't used the tipping feature yet, but plan to try it out soon. May send you a tip to try it.

It seems nostr:npub1wpzpvzfkn4m754fasp0wnt6ck20ycww4kz9nj4n5rquu9ul7a0xq4hzs7p has a testnet address since it begins with 5 instead of 4 or 8, I need to fix this moStard shouldn't highlight these addresses since you can't tip from mainnet

Heads up Garnet is very out of date with Amethyst. Basically a dead project at the moment.
I recommend using Mostard instead
