When I posted this originally the image didn’t appear on Damus but I could still see it on other clients.

No, because we only get the link to the gif from the relay. After that we’re using Kingfisher (third-party image view SDK) to load it. I hate using third-party SDKs for UI, but I haven’t spent the time to see if there’s a better way or not. Kingfisher is pretty popular with iOS devs though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
