I seem to be pathetically sensitive to onions.
a trick that might help you is to store some of the onions you are gonna cook in the fridge, they are much less volatile when cold
I've given up on chopping onions. I haven't chopped onions in at least 10 years and maybe 20. I use onion powder, dried minced onions, or frozen chopped onions in my cooking. That way I have no problems. I don't like massive quantities of onions in foods anyway. A little adds depth of flavor, but I don't care for food that tastes super oniony and I dislike raw onions, so these options work fine for me.
ah well, everyone's got different genes i guess... i used to eat brown onions raw as a child, and i've rarely ever got tears from it, except for white onions which i don't like anyway, they are too sour
to be honest i have hardly eaten onions in a long time anyway, going carnivore and all, well, partly carnivore... carnivore and a bit of breadcrumbs on fish fingers and chicken nuggets and suchlike
