Even if you have free speech on nostr doesn't mean you the state won't throw you in jail for what you say here

Guarantee there are Feds on here as well. 🤷

😎

Every note collected from relays and AI analyzed. It probably doesn't require very many agents.

We should not be afraid of them being here, we should be afraid of their relays.

That’s true anywhere, but at least we don’t have private companies colluding with the government to prevent some of us from saying what we want to say to a bunch of people who listen to us.

The issue isn't just when they collude with governments to hide governmental censorship as corporate censorship. That is an issue, but it's not the only issue.

Actual, legitimate, corporate censorship, on its own, with no government involvement, guided by capitalistic interests or even the mere preference of owners, is big enough an evil to make Nostr worthy.

I’m so screwed

Now take a step further into this rabbit hole, until you realize there is no freedom and we're all governed by laws... 💜🫂

Or..deport..then jail in El Salvador.

WILD times..🙃

I really need to be more careful with my GMs

At least there is no KYC... But can the relays see our IP address..? 👀

You are connecting to them using your IP so...

Hmm... 😬

You could use a VPN you know. It doesn't magically solve everything, but it improves things a lot.

Absolutely relays can see your IP

yeah VPN really advisable or run nostrudel client through TORbrowser, Brave/Tor or Firefox configured for onion.

Damn I should have my VPN on at all times...

Obviously the VPN service will then have your IP. It's good if you trust the VPN company more than the bunch of randos that run relays.

Yeah good point, I trust Mullvad because they have no information on me and I paid them with lightning 😉

They have your IP address. That's information about you.

Not just relays.

If your client automatically embeds images, without proxying, then anyone posting an image can trivially get your IP. If your client supports the outbox mode, then one can "trick" it into communicating it with any relay, including one designed specifically to obtain your IP.

this is why you should use vpn tor and a nym

VPN - check

Pseudonym - check

Tor - compromised

VPN + TOR

Being anonymous, not using your real name and using a vpn can help, I assume.

Why would the VPN service, run by a company that needs to follow laws to operate and is managed by people who are not themselves anonymous, not share any data with your government when it asks?

Nostr only really protects from corporate censorship, not governmental censorship.

That is a worthy goal on its own, however. A lot of censorship is due to companies, not governments.
