I did always think it was odd that coffee shops ask me if I want my drink hot or iced when it’s snowing and -18 C outside. I’m a hot coffee kind of guy in winter. Come to think of it. I’m a hot coffee kind of guy all year round. To each his own.

Some days I think maybe this place we all live is actually the place called Hell, which we all strive not to end up in for all eternity when we die.

Just what is it telling me?

I’ve been vibe coding a GPS stabilized PTP grandmaster / NTP server solution on a BeagleBone Black. Some optimizations I made to it today brought down the standard deviation of the pulse per second signal to around 10 ns. I think that’s about as good as I’m going to be able to do with this hardware.

It was a fun project that turns into being a rabbit hole about what defines time and the accuracy of it. Anyway, for my AES67 audio over IP work, this is more than fine to sync everything.

I’ve done this and it has helped to unstick situations and find code errors that the first LLM made and didn’t catch. In these cases, I’ve been pitting Claude against Gemini. Both accounts are paid. I mostly use Claude Sonnet 4.5 and Gemini Pro. I’ve dabbled with Opus 4.5 and so far find it only marginally better than Sonnet 4.5. Opus costs 3x so I’m not seeing the strong drive to use Opus a lot yet.

Never underestimate the willingness of a fellow human to sacrifice your health and wellbeing for a little money and power.

True story.

I have a range of kids from 6 to 22 and this is pretty accurate. The older ones, I’m pretty sure would be perfectly fine if I never talked to them again, at least until they get older and realize that I’m not full of shit all of the time and that there’s something to be said for experience. They’re not shy about telling my wife or me when we say something they don’t agree with about how we’re wrong. When those times happen, my wife and I look at each other and we know what the other is thinking.

The 6 and 9 year-olds still think we’re awesome so we’ve got that going for us.. for now. :-)

Merry Christmas to all!

I love it. We have numerous Flock cameras near where I live. I may or may not have thoughts of using those things as target practice every time I drive past one. They don’t exactly hide them so they’re fairly easy to spot.

It might be cold where I’m at, but it’s a sweltering heatwave here compared to this place in Russia. Do machines that aren’t airplanes even operate here?

Just went to a couple stores (Heinen’s and Costco) and said Merry Christmas to multiple employees as I interacted with them all. Nobody said anything back. Is this some new thing where companies are telling their employees not to respond to “Merry Christmas”?

Yes, but only when I’m trying to plug in my phone charger next to the bed in the dark.

If Santa is flying the published RNAV 18 approach to North Pole then he should be good to go.

It is a trap. 51 year-old me can attest to this fact.

Interesting. I didn’t know they had progressed that much to add Python.

I had a 81 or 82 back in the day then my kids needed one and my old TI had screen issues so we ended up having to buy one new four or five years ago.

Much of the left is completely unhinged. They’re all full of accusation with no ability to back it up. Just ask them. They can’t produce evidence backing up their claims. I’ve asked numerous times and have never gotten a suitable response other than one person reporting me to the FBI, and others yelling at me and calling me names. Still no evidence.

Because this will go so well, right. How’d COVID vaxxing work out for everyone? How’d shutting down spreading of “misinformation” go? How’d questioning of election results go for everyone?

Who decides who is mentally ill?

If this is real, this is a terrible idea and will only be used for genocide.

I’ve got a better idea. How about Fox News fire Brian Kilmeade?

Just got it. Liking the colored chats and autocorrect has been enabled on iOS. Still nobody around me using it even though I’m in a crowd of 3000 people, but I guess we’ll work on that.

My wife, not a coder, had her first vibe coding session tonight and she’s gone from AI is going to take our jobs and is a terrible thing to wow this is amazing, we could totally make money with some ideas I’ve got. Quite the turnaround.

Tonight’s session was spawned off by the need to scrape a bunch of genealogical data from a website covering her ancestral lines. I was showing her how to do things with Linux, Claude, Python, and the genealogy website. She did most of vibe coding with coaching from me. She was able to get a scraper together that seems to be scraping the data properly and storing it in a standard format that can be imported elsewhere, which we tested.

I was curious what software the genealogy website was running and it turns out that it’s just a translator from GEDCOM to HTML. We need the data in GEDCOM format so I suggested we reach out to the guy who owns the website and ask if we could get a copy of the complete database. She’s emailed him before and had some correspondence over the years but nothing recent so she asks if he’s still alive since he was getting up there in years. Turns out he passed away one week ago. His funeral hasn’t even happened yet. So since he’s very unlikely to object to us downloading the data, now the mad dash is on to scrape the data and convert it back to GEDCOM format before his family shuts down his website and we lose access to the data. The script is currently scraping away.

She had a good time tonight and learned a few things along the way. Maybe I need to show her how to get running with Nostr next. :-)

GN all.

🥲

Yeah, it’s unfortunate. Sometime I leave the app open while driving somewhere. Haven’t managed to find someone else yet.

Wow! What an awesome nighttime air show that #EAA #Airventure 2025 put on tonight.

Very cool!

Fine as long as it doesn’t include the CBDC backdoor.

There’s not enough time in the day.

GN, all. Sleep well.
