A lot of times yes. Recently, I have been using AI differently. I will use it to give me a general idea of how a concept I’m trying to animate will look or different styles as a reference point.

Totally. I’m agreeing that AI is ugly and not even really art, but still useful at times

Anything used cheaply and naively produces cheap results. This is axiomatic to how cheap is defined by the viewer. When we see thousands of easily generated Ai images, it becomes equivalent with “boring” and “lazy” when we see another image that looks like it. Ai is just a tool, that is all.
