What's the point of having a NIP-05/ Nostr address??

It's not like people can search you 🤔

It's pointless for most people except for like jack or big dog devs who have lots of impersonators.

I think it's totally confusing and pointless to have newbies try to figure this out tho. It should be more an an advanced and slightly hidden feature on sign up imo

Agreed. If you're telling noobs that they need to input their Nostr address, you have to tell them what the pointless hoo ha is all about. Jack doesn't even have a NIP-05

At this point …. it’s like a gang sign hahaha

It's also a really annoying and fiddly step and even worse, there are lots of paid nip05s. So you could have scenarios where people think they need to pay to be here.

Charging for a line in a json file is a bit annoying.

You know he's jack because he's got an @primal.net LN address

You can put anyone's address into your lnurl field tho, tbf

You're not helping 😂😂

Ideally, he should put jack@primal.net in his NIP-05

You can. However it will not be verified because it will not match your public key.

lnurls are not verified. She's right, you can stick anyone's NIP-57 in your lnurl

Correct, I misread the message.

The only use I've actually seen, is on ditto.pub

You have a sidebar option there to show the feed of others with the nip05. I think that is a way of making Communities. Or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can search with nip-05 on nostr.band or on clients like Nostur. It’s useful if an npub has impersonators. Some nip-05 providers offer other services too. Like nostrplebs.com also has a nokyc receive email service

Nostrplebs also lets you use your nip-05 address as a link to your lnurl address. You can set this up jn the settings of nostrplebs (same for the email service)

It is a way to verify you’re who you say you are. For example, if I’m a blogger with a website, I can use NIP-05 to link myself to my website domain and it will verify who I am. The verification will fail if you used my address with your public key.

Definitely 👍

You can only if your Alby Account is linked to some node like your own, legacy Alby Account or Alby Hub!

So new Alby accounts don't have this feature?

They do - but to use your getalbycom personal address as LNURL, you need to have some wallet service (ie. external wallet or Alby Hub). Sorry if it's confusing!

Nah, it's not confusing. Thanks
