Great, so what is a good number? The US is currently at (possibly slightly above) the highest percentage of foreign born population in history, with projections that it will get much higher in our lifetimes. Mass immigration, legal or illegal has a huge effect on the culture of a country. The more selective you are, the better the quality of immigrant.

Yes it was different, but peoples of this earth have moved from here to there all the time. And I don't think God meant us to have any borders, do you?
And what caused people to move, to act on this what you call self-immolation? Was that gluttony or indulgence or anything bad? People just want to live a better life. How much of a chance at a better life is there when your interest rates are 3x higher where you were born because the reserve currency is printed elsewhere?
I don't blame the immigrants at all, I blame our government (who is supposed to serve us) for not protecting us from them. I also believe in ethnic/cultural cohesion, it's ok to migrate, but it usually happens during periods of crisis, not as a positive good.
God made "peoples" (ethnicities), and Israel had divinely inspired borders. At the same time, God was also the one who drove Nebuchadnezzar to conquer the entire known world, dissolving those borders and re-organizing everything. And yet there are still people who trace their lineage to places as specific as Syria and Chaldea.
Isn’t it a bit strange how many countries are being flooded with “refugees” while governments completely look the other way and disregard the law? It’s almost like it’s coordinated… 🤔
I don't think it's up to your government to protect you, do you really believe that? Your country is a mess because most people believe that, I don't think you believe that. Seeing a country shouldn't be about controlling it. It should be about enforcing only that which is enforceable and desirable.
That's the function of the government. Ours is just so big no one has any opportunity to be responsible for anything. But for the collective matters like borers, the state is the right vehicle for that authority.
While I disagree with you premise, under your framework of cohesion what if the immigrants are actually far closer in philosophy to you than many already in America?

So even if people would actually be closer in outlook, culture, and lifestyle to you it still comes down to their race for whether or not you’d want to let them in?
"Nation" comes from "Natus", which means birth. So nationalism is about belonging based on family/tribe/nation, not any accidental quality in individuals. Liking someone better than my dad doesn't make him my dad. And this sounds sort of racist maybe, but just as there are good reasons for family loyalty, there are good reasons for loyalty to homeland.
In many ways our government (moreso the fed) created the contitions which caused these people to leave their home countries. Fair to blame the government for the endless coup attempts in developing nations and the fed for funding the military industrial complex.
Then also for creating the welfare state which acts as a magnet to pull asylum seekers here.
