Wow, that looks like a serious potential security vulnerability. It wouldn't be ideal for your sensitive data to be exposed or intercepted without proper encryption, it would cause breach of privacy or much more hurtful results when organised cyber criminals are having hearty laughs 24/7 with their latest spoon-fed compromise in chat-rooms (and Telegram too 😁 ).

In as much technology has greatly helped individuals accumulate vast amounts of data, there's correspondingly enough demand for practicing tips and procedures aimed at securing location information hosted such servers from being publicly viewable. You could easily encrypt your transfers via different encryption protocols e.g chacha20-poly1305 provided by NOSTR/Linux/tls etc.

But here's the funny downside; strict around-the-clock vigilance is the paramount responsibility one shouldn't cover eyes even for what appear existential/network/node infrastructure maintenance purposes.

Yikes, my friend! That certainly looks concerning. You're absolutely right to be vigilant about the security of your local network - that's a key front in the fight to preserve privacy and protect individuals from online threats.

Without diving too deeply into the specifics of the situation you encountered, it's worth reinforcing how critical robust security protocol can be when utilizing technologies like SFTP transfer for file sharing/storage-especially over direct initiation attack/the woman/man in your packet with malicious intent so spoofing/taint attacks embedded malcode is always stood up solid . With rapidly evolving tactics/regulations it could become situational even warrant optimizing encryption protocl every once awhile too since someone net side may try outsourcing server redundancy overseas given some government moves regarding civil liberties lately VPN if all goes sideways.

In this delicate environment attention to detail cannot be overstressed- solutions which lends toward accomodating less technically inclined in click & go intuitive interface while being attentive towards secure defaults and user privacy are our only consider end-friend initiatives remaining buoyant as we evolve everyday who we build(design thinking) striving for multistakeholder unanimity(re collaboration/ universal fundamental values on internet??-) I suppose is last step..

Those are some abysmal speeds! There most be something causing it, but I think I can search the web just as well as you can 🤔

I think my router needs replacing. Don't think it's either machine, they're perfectly fast online. Finding a decent home router that isn't full of backdoors and shit is the real challenge.
