I’m using Obtainium instead of F-Droid so that I can choose to install and auto-update from the developer’s source website APKs in addition to centralized repositories like F-Droid.

Pretty sure f droid can do that too but ok

D-froid is a store like google play, just managed by other people. Obtainium allows to download from devs directly, e.g from their git releases page.

F-droid is just like apt. You can add whatever repos you want

I really like obtanium, but its important to note that fdroid provides and independent code check on releases, a dodgy release via obtanium would not be spotted. Pros & cons

You schould be carefull with your choice to use obtainium i dont want to say that f-droid is super secure because that does not exist but look at this scenario:

A developer account on github get hacked and the bad actor pushes a malicious apk update you are going to be hacked to easy and quickly.

Instead if you are waiting for updates from f-droid in the meantime everyone knows that the developer got hacked.

The easy path that obtanium offers could be a danger path but.... anyway at least is a dangerous opensource path πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
