I think I see what you’re getting at. Reminds me of a lyric:

“They never freed the slaves, they realized that they don’t need the chains

They gave us tiny screens, we think we’re free ’cause we can’t see the cage”

Is that along the lines you were thinking? Because YES. I do wonder often if we’re not all really just seeking the illusion of freedom meanwhile they’ve just found a new way to control us.

People should block the obvious

We might share insights each needs someday. If your feed shows only what you want, question its worth. Is it freedom, or a self-made echo chamber?

I see what you mean. Yes, there is a danger of that. I have personally tried to stay as open minded as I can, but I’m certainly not perfect on it. But if it’s something that causes pain or irritation constantly, i may have to make a choice.

The key is to follow up with thought about why it got under my skin - does it mean I’m wrong? Or weak? Or intolerant of other valid viewpoints?

Without introspection and being willing to challenge one’s self, I agree that you can certainly stunt your own growth by surrounding yourself with yes-men.

Nostrudel comes with temporary mutes. You can mute for an hour, a day, a week or a month. Something like that.

This is the perfect approach imo.

I agree, that is a very useful tool, and I would use it on my mobile client if it had it. Sort of a “cool off” period.
