First time I’m hearing about “altstore” - any iOS users using it? Seems to be EU only? I have so many questions…

The European Union forced Apple to allow apps to be installed without their App Store. Hence, Altstore was born.

Altstore was around for many years before it got supported by Apple for EU. It allowed side loading without jailbreak, which was pretty cool. But it was a little janky process.

That definitely makes sense and how good is it?

Yea those are alternative appstores to "sideload" apps.

What I get on my iOS device (which is still on version 17, I guess this only works on iOS 18).

Se also https://freedomstore.io from the Vexl Foundation

https://www.vexl.foundation/ which is pointing to https://altstore.io (I'm confused)

Ah yes, I'm reading now...see point 4 that I need iOS 18. And point 3...lol

The real fun starts with AltStore classic

not used it so far, but ready to test.

altstore locked and loaded!

lets distribute and publish some app. (i haven’t build one, anything we want to try out?)

I'm using it but there's nothing interesting except Minibits for me.

I'd love it if there'd be a piracy or cracked apps alt store but afaik they still require some sort of apple permission to publish apps (or stores?).

oh the days of cydia. when you could actually "own" your apple device.

They are still signed by Apple. So they can’t do shady stuff. Only emulators and so on.

it's so lame .... 😕

But still a good playground to test the limits

😢

Cmon, it’s just another distribution channel

I grab the UTM version for ipad from there.

Legit. Was already a thing before the eu regulation. But with way more headaches. Now it’s as easy as it can get with Apple / EU

It’s very limited.

I‘m using appdb.to with apple certificate from udidregistrations.com to sideload any app like YouTube with no ads.

being unable to sideload is a totalitarian joke, and that's where we heading, unfortunately...

Tried to use it via freedomstore.io on a fresh iPhone.

Their freedomstore json file with all the app data was not working , was able to find an old version of it on GitHub and hosted it myself by pointing alt store to it.

Was not able to load non notarized ipa files. Unclear if it’s possible to notarize an app without Apple’s involvement.

Other apps listed there load well but choice is limited right now.

You will also need to have an apple account to use it.

Hm. Interesting. Thanks for sharing!
