Thanks for answering. I didn't have an issue on Primal either, but I think Damus won't let him move forward with publishing his profile without and Alby wallet or another NWC wallet, and Wallet of Satoshi isn't in the Apple Store.

I was having issues with NWC prior and was in the same position as your recruit with Alby. What do you mean publish? Damus was the app that helped me get on Nostr. I set up the lighting wallet on Primal. The Nostr protocol is the same regardless of how you access it (Damus or Primal). What I did on Primal carries over to Damus and vice versa.

Thanks so much for your input. You're right on him being able to publish and post without a wallet address having to be entered. So he's gotten that far.
He is a Bitcoiner (runs a lightning node). We just need to find him a wallet compatible with Nostr Wallet Connect. It looks like Damus doesn't auto-create a wallet like primal does. You connect Damus with Alby (which you have to pay for or register on a waiting list 7000+ deep) or link up another NWC compatible wallet like Wallet of Satoshi (which isn't available in the U.S. or in the Apple Store).
My Android initiation on Primal was easier, and I didn't have to download the app through Google.

Okay. On Cashu.me, when I try to enable his wallet with the nsec, I get an error popup that says "NDKuser not initialized".
What’s his npub? I’ve seen issues in the past which I assume are due to new users not being recognized yet.
Try using the default (random) Lightning address first. Maybe after some time, he can try entering nsec again, although it’s not recommended and not mandatory to receive zaps.
He wants to receive zaps, but he immediately wants to send zaps, too. I think if we create a wallet, but don't put his nsec in, it won't generate a lightning address he can put in on Damus. Maybe I'm wrong on this?
I've still got the cashu.me window open. I'll try a refresh to see if it helps. I do wonder if he'll need to be validated before this works.

Also noticed that when I want to retrieve/open the wallet, I have to go to #nutstash to enter the passphrase. When it opened, it didn't have the same viewing features as calle.me.
Can you reopen a wallet on calle.me on a phone browser if privacy setting are set to clear cookies and data on browser exit? It looks like calle.me is supposed to store wallet info on the device.

You don't need NWC or even Lightning to complete the onboarding process with Damus.
