if you had hip replacement surgery
what would be the point of cheating on the exercises
of lying to your physical therapist saying you walked miles you didnt
the only person it hurts is you
the point is you gaining back your own mobility
that's all i mean
like if the social contract is:
we are in this together to help you
the foundational aspect of that is
being in agreement about the work
wanting to do the work to get there
your sports therapist facilitating you doing that work
this type of stretch isnt working? exacerbates this? ok not there yet. modify the stretch this way. gotta build strength back here and here first.
not gatekeeping why, explaining why like this muscle, that tendon
like by the end of this, you are your own amateur sports therapist, didnt just do work, also have more knowledge, more equipped, more intune with your own body, more aware, have your own internal safeguards, know better what to watch out for, know more about the importance of warming up
and while that is often framed as depolitical like oh this scenario is college football knee injury player working with the university's sports therapist,
it isnt
first of all, it is pro-social
secondly, major incentive to recover that player's ability for the team and also because a student
thirdly, the reputation of the team, the coaches, the school
cultural considerations like:
this player has a better hour working together with me if we pray beforehand so as an occupational therapist, im down that's fine that only helps that guy
and hey this other player would literally leave on crutches if i insisted we prayed to god before stretching, that guy isnt about it
like religion is fine, and the ability to be free from it is also a necessity because for some people that is an absolute requirement
what im ultimately saying is
kinda interesting how easy all this seems to be to solve in consensus in a scenario about sports injuries and football
getting everyone on the same page of: whatever that athlete needs to recover from his knee injury and get back out there on the field is what we are backing, we are all in agreement here
no one is raising their hand in objection like: hold on, if the occupational therapist is too talented at their job, will that athlete become dependent? idk that i trust ~this occupational therapist cos that one is a woman, i feel like we are spoiling that guy by doing a round of ice therapy after training, im pretty sure storebrand gatorade is fine
cos why? cos people would correctly be like: are you... ops? like are you from a rival school?
cos clearly no one who gives a shit about us winning is out here about storebrand gatorade like im so sure this is a rival school
like if you were from here actually you would know our science graduate students are inventing some state of the art gatorade shit. grants funding the whole thing. cos deeply popular with our alumni cos everyone is on board with us having the best season possible and it really isnt hard to be in value alignment with that.
storebrand gatorade smh
what is this, a theater teacher who weaseled their way onto the board?
so salty about the state of the costume department? choose! more! popular! shows! next! season! get! those! ticket! sales! up! pal! you'll have discretionary funds to spend on more costumes then. coming for our jocks? out of your damn mind.
