Have you tried classical music? I sometimes work to Chopin's nocturnes, you may find melody helps too

nah, this nasty noisy stuff does the trick better, it's like exposure therapy
i know in one way it's like hearing your own heartbeat, which is also bassy and noisy, and when you only hear that, most of the time you are either under water, extremely anxious, or in the womb
Use what works!
yeah, this was the first piece of music that got me there, a long time ago, and i love the guy who makes it, fuckin legend
I used to have stuff like that in the background but low volume, now for some reason am mostly classical when having to concentrate. Interesting how we change too
healing is how i'd describe it
sudden loud noises still make me crazy, this whole last year has been all about this, so i need some deep treatment
Is it just startle and kinda shock or is there emotional connection? Anger, frustration, fear or whatever?
any loud noise that is unexpected
the barking dogs, the sudden sound of a car driving past, the sound of fireworks going off
and the emotion it triggers is terror
That's terrible man, hope the music helps to heal. What else have you tried?
finding a cure has been my abiding obsession for maybe 20 years, maybe more, everything i do is driven by this, and i think i found it, finally
Hope it works
i'm definitely feeling better, and what flagged it for me was remembering how much i loved this piece of music

it features prominently in the introduction video, which i never watched, of the game Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
you will hear what i mean when you listen to it... droning throbbing beat, mostly chromatic percussion, incidental, surprising noises, and a general vibe of dogged determination, idk how else to describe it, steeling yourself to do something, taking full control of your own mind
That's a good description. Is it the actual sound though or it's consistency? Am just curious cause for some reason reminded me of something. Certainly hope this doesn't sound offensive at all but we rescued a dog and it was a runt and scared shitless of anything. It's a visceral reaction to noises that startles him and then he gets very defensive. Am not the only person he's bitten. Tried lots of things and the only thing I found seemed to calm him down was actually extreme exposure to those sounds - cars, motorbikes, the drill, vacuum cleaner whatever whilst being there and close to him to have a presence of calm. I know a couple of people with PTSD from military service and never really thought of this. I imagine would be harrowing at the start but could potentially help. Main thing really is that you've finally found something that works but one has to hope that in future you can heal it to not need the aids.
yeah it's making me tear up so much
It's good of you to be openly sharing this for any other people on nostr who suffer. Many people find these hard to speak openly about.
Just made me think of something. Is load noises something you've always avoided then?
