I don't have space for this, but it came up in conversation and now I want to know - if you buy a whole cow from a rancher/butcher instead of piecemeal from a store, is that cheaper? Bout how much is it?

Depends on the rancher and on what processing would cost you and do you have the commitment to eat the whole cow. If you were tempted id buy a half and see how long it takes you.

I'd say you can't gauge by your grocery buy rate. A freezer full of beef on hand will cause you to eat more beef.

Id usually agree but ive met some lazy people that would rather order in instead of thawing out a roast. It requires planning

I won't say I've never done it. When I am cooking at home my thinking is usually "what cut of beef and how will I prepare it?"
