Brutal experience to witness. My grandpa went through it and it was truly heartbreaking. Wishing you all peace and strength.

Gah, that’s tough. Sorry to hear man, two of my in-laws lost parents to dementia last couple of years and it is a rough ride. Sending hope and peace 🫂

I wish you well, have hallucinations started yet?

Dementia is an awful condition. I see it frequently at work. Sorry you all have to suffer that.

Dementia manifests differently for everyone, but it tends to have a sliding scale of severity that increases with time.

For people who get diagnosed early and who still have some degree of cognitive function, there are tools that , although they can't reverse the condition, can slow the progression and make it more manageable to go through.

Remarkably, music is potentially a valuable resource. At the very least, the right song for the right individual can temporarily revive a person's faded personality.

Neuroplasticity is the keyword. In this field of research we can find information to help us prevent and delay dementia in the first place, and deal with it better when we must face it.

My only long-form note on nostr happens to be on this very topic:

I developed this solution. We have over 500 people using it successfully with a very high response rate. It's well known that non-pharmacological interventions are the best, but often there's not enough time and energy to make them work. All the drugs that are currently used to address the behavioral symptoms are known to either not work (antidepressants) or cause serious side effects (antipsychotics). This is a wonderful compassionate option that helps with the behaviors and puts a smile on their face.
