Bitcoin failure from today 😢

I stopped in Ojochal and it was cool to see that multiple spots accept bitcoin, but I couldn't pay, because there was no cell reception (not even on local Liberty simcard). These merchants/stores should really have some easy way to connect to their wifi next to the area where you pay - they could have the wifi QR code printed (see example below).

When both merchant and buyer have connection: all good.

When seller is offline: we can use their Static QR and it's ok.

When buyer is offline: is there any solution?

Sender of cashu can be technically offline

Yeah, something like cashu could be considered, but it would be better if this is non-custodial solution. Other options are LNURL-Pay with some custodial service, or BOLT12 where it somehow gets the confirmation from my LSP (my phone doesn't need to be online). Not sure if BOLT12 allows that?

If not, one could imagine a scheme where

- I'd send some pre-signed "transactions" or "amounts" to my LSP (but don't share "secret")

- The LSP can't spend them unless it gets the secret.

- When I'm buying the item from the seller, I show the secret to the seller (e.g. they scan a QR on my phone, or NFC tap)

- Seller's phone/POC calls my LSP with the secret and pulls appropriate money.

A modification for plus points - I could also use another selfhosted server that does this revealing of secrets for me and then calls the LSP on my behalf.

I've worried about this, but there aren't easy solutions

Hear you bro, sorry you had issues paying. One solution might be a Boltcard like payment with an Nfc enabled card linked yo your sats balance. Something like the guys from nostr:nprofile1qqsp7fxsmxnahv3pkqsx4pn9pqm5739sp4cy5d8gkxelex5tc9qrspspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qgswaehxw309ahx7um5wghx6mmd9uuh48ww did with "la wallet".

We've been playing with it, but more testing needed. La wallet seems to be open source so we might deploy some VMs for testing.

The constrain is some vendors might not have NFC enabled phones... Anyway, thank you for keeping boots on the ground and reporting :)

Or just print the QRs with wifi access ;) Sometimes the lame solutions are the best bang-for-buck ratio... 😉

Otherwise success from today from farmer's market in Uvita: All payments in just couple seconds from self custodial wallet 😊

There's a new American guy selling some pastries and empanadas and he doesn't accept, but I mentioned it to him and he didn't seem super opposed.

https://wificard.io is a handy and easy to remember website for generating wifi qr codes.
