Which one? The catholic churches where I'm at are mostly Mexican.

If you have to be a Christian, Catholicism is the only way to go.

It does seem that you need to de-program yourself a bit first though, because there's no such thing as a "Mexican" church in Catholicism (unless you mean they conduct the mass in Spanish or something like that).

That said, I'm an irredeemable atheist, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Honestly I believe we live in a simulation due to the split experiment. But the programmer could totally be Jesus or something. I mainly want community for my kids.

You just made me think of one of my best friends who lives in LA. He's an atheist (son of a protestant pastor, don't ask me what flavor, I get lost in all that) and his (Japanese) wife a Methodist. So he actually takes his kid "to church" every Sunday, for the same exact reason you just mentioned -- so the kid has a "community". Because "going to church" apparently involves playing basketball, baseball, doing stuff with other kids...

To me, as a European, taken at face value, all this is extremely bizarre. But I spend a lot of time with Americans and in the US, so I have come to understand the lifestyle and I wouldn't even think of faulting my friend for being "inconsistent" or anything like that.

No one is irredeemable, including you

I wouldn't want you to think that I was lamenting it or anything like that.

So let me rephrase it: I am a permanent, unconvincible, inalterable, complete and utter atheist, with no interest whatsoever in being "saved", "redeemed", or otherwise recruited into any type of religion.

Apologies if I mislead you.

Dang your missing out. Just wanted to point out the door is always open. Out of curiosity why the recommendation for Catholicism?

Try both, go talk to the priests. As for Catholicism I’d try to find a traditional Latin mass parish (TLM). They are based. Study church history, study the saints study the Eucharist. But a fair warning, if you are serious about this you will be attacked spiritually, weird things will happen, you’ve got to push through this part. Praying daily will limit this. The most important thing you can do is cultivate humility. Happy to help, I was exactly where you were a few years ago.
