"Dr Martens has produced a giveaway “queer joy” boot appearing to feature a trans person with apparent mastectomy scars, it has emerged.
The shoe brand advertised the rainbow-coloured pair of the 1460 boot on its US Instagram account last week, inviting followers to enter a prize draw to win them for free.
They have been designed by Jess Vosseteig, a self-described queer illustrator based in Colorado, who said she wanted to “represent queer joy” with a spin on the original boot worn by many in the 1970s.
But it has sparked a backlash, with some accusing the brand of promoting “grotesque” ideology."
