...and this week a Russian cargo ship, Ursa Major, has sunk in the Mediterranean after an explosion in the engine room. Four Russian ships sunk in two weeks. ๐Ÿ˜‚

It was carrying port cranes to Vladivostok, as well as critical parts for an under construction Russian icebreaker. I'd give you a 90% chance this was sabotage.

The cranes:

Those cranes would have moved a lot of cargo; Vladivostok has capacity issues.

Also good news, two crew members are missing, likely dead, which will hopefully discourage future crews from sailing for Russia.

Wild to see from their point of view

Makes me thankful Iโ€™m no longer out at sea

Nice! Murder them all, amirite?

They're meaningfully contributing to a genocidal war of aggression. So yes, it's good that they're dead.

How is NATO encroaching on Russia, Russian aggression?

Yeah, it seems like he only scratches the surface. Anyone with depth would be embarrassed

The little boat, flipped over.

During summer, I spent much longer than planned in a pop-up hostel in Turkey, run by some young Ukrainian hippies, on a patch of derelict land about 100m from the sea. The elderly Turkish lady who owned the delapidated building lived upstairs and just wanted to monetise the rickety building.

The guests were mostly Russian and Ukrainian guys. Probably more Russians on most days. There was me, a British girl with not so good teeth who worked for a charity, and a few random middle easterners and africans, token Dutch backpacker etc.

On my first night, I chilled with a Ukrainian guy on the beach. He was in the navy. Most of the Russians and Ukrainians there had been in the military. Most evenings there was a BBQ/campfire in the little garden patch. Everyone shared meat, and pizza, and cigarettes. More than a few of the guys had a brother or close friend still fighting, perhaps. There was visable trauma, but sometimes interrupted or blunted by cheap Turkish alcohol, dark humour, and more cigarettes... tobacco was a precious commodity, but freely shared between everyone.

Sometimes lots of laughter. Some arguments. Lots of tears. I haven't felt like sharing this experience until just now. Don't be a war whore Peter.

Dude, you were in Turkey.

Those are Russians who has left Russia. No-one had any issue with people who do the right thing and leave.

Agreed. The Ukrainians had left too. Seeing how the Ukrainians took on the role of older brother to the Russians (who were generally younger - lower draft age I guess) is at least cause for some hope and optimism.

I genuinely believe in the 'Fix the money fix the world' slogan. It is,of course, more complicated. But that place and the people have been a source of inspiration. Onward.

even if 'fix money fix the world' works it is very very long story but we have war now

Trump will cut-off the money and issue an executive order to freeze funding that's already been authrosied, very soon after he takes office. My guess is that he'll fly to Moscow in his first few days. The European defence complex is largely coupled to the Atlantic Council (which effectively sets NATO policy), and is controlled through the US intelligence establishment. Tulsi Gabbard will kick the swamp monsters into touch. Hopefully there' be some arrests. Senators will fall into line.

so for me and Ukrainians that means more missiles attacks, more deaths. because I can't imagine russia not taking advantage of the fact that ukraine will get fewer weapons. and don't forget that weapons includes ammunition for air defense systems and that means more russian missiles will reach targets like electricity infrastructure.

exactly, as much as I hate russia and russians, if person states clearly his or her attitude towards this war and condemns russia I have no problems with them.

russia has a so called shadow fleet. these are ships that carry under-sanctioned goods. as it is a risky business, old decrepit ships are used for this purpose. one or two ships that recently sank in Crimea and created an ecological disaster were river vessels. they were not designed for sea storms. I think they were just given orders and everyone understood the consequences. and those who gave such orders don't care about people and consequences. so before you feel sorry, study the details.

Yup this doesnโ€™t seem accidental, 4 ships in 2 weeksโ€ฆ
