And this is it. Iām not zapping anyone else on Nostr unless I start seeing people following the example. A "circular economy" where only devs and operators spend to provide free stuff isnāt much of a circular economy, itās just a huge scam.
Wrong currency. Bitcoin is a store of value. It's digital gold. Very good digital gold mind you, but the Medium of Exchange race is long lost.
Many people here, they talk about circular this and that, but inside they hate so much to part with their digital gold that even when making small zaps they feel little pangs of loss and regret. The worry that they might not get it zapped back reaches OCD level. That's where we are today.
Nostr needs USDT zaps. Native taproot USDT zaps over lightning. It's possible to care about Nostr more than Bitcoin, and if that's you then you have to see this.
I'm honestly don't care if folks get paid in BTC, Fiat, Stable Coins, Dark Coins, Meme Coins, gold, grains of coffee or whatever, as long as devs can somehow exchange it for food and shelter. Maxis can always swap for BTC if they so which. Looks like some folks implemented "Monero zapping", I'm sure that someone can put together USDT Zapz together. But I don't think this is what stopping folks from donating.

Also, I live 1/2 of the year in a growing circular economy spending (and sometimes receiving) Bitcoin multiple times a day. Topping up with purchases for fiat if my overall stack drops more than a fraction of a percent.

Youāre simply an exception to a general rule that is far bigger. More USDT is spent in a day (as in paying for actual stuff, not investing) than Bitcoin in a year. The use of Bitcoin as a medium of exchange is actually decreasing in many countries.

USDT is not the dollar. But wider point is Bitcoin is decreasing. As in to catch up it has to first stop decreasing and then one day start increasing.

Salvadorans using Bitcoin for transactions down from 25.7% in 2021 to just 8% in 2024 and still declining (Instituto Universitario de OpiniĆ³n PĆŗblica). That was the one place it gained actual real-life traction (versus token tourist-town traction, like in parts of Costa Rica, etc). Also use in China has cratered since the ban, obviously. Bitcoin as MoE is not increasing notably anywhere in the world to make up for all the countries in which it's decreasing. Certainly not in the developed world. And in relative terms (versus stablecoins) it's being absolutely crushed.
If you want online then look no further than Lightning network volume vs. Tron volume, those numbers are easily searchable.

Itās dead as a thing you use for everyday purchases. As a store of value (ie digital gold) itās thriving.

I'm not here for bitcoin zaps. Or rather for my share of the teensy weensy $1,000 worth of zaps that get sent around Nostr every day, which is supposedly the largest online Bitcoin circular economy in the world.
I'm here for the relay tech, which, unlike the Bitcoin zaps, is very promising.
