#[0] l was listening to the panel on monetization and had these thoughts…

I do think in these early days it will be critical to allow people to have free clients to get on the nostr protocol to remove any barrier to entry, allowing the network to grow. There will however be a segment of damus/nostr superfans that are already bought in and want the latest features and are willing to pay to be on the cutting edge.

1. What if you made “TestFlight” a permanent thing…. A monthly fee for a “TestFlight” version where users would get all the latest updates and experimental features first, and then the regular App Store download would be the free version and they would get the latest features after a few months.

2. And/Or… I think you could also crowd fund new features by using zaps to allow users to poll which feature they want implemented first. Zap the feature you want the most and the amount you zap is how bad you want the features incorporated. The largest zaps are the ones that get worked on first.

My thoughts on a subscription…

I would but here’s my thought on it

And here’s another take on the subject #[2]

I will argue from the opposite position here and say that this type of model is a rent seeking model and not a value for value model.

All a client would need to do is offer the minimum service and then collect money. Other clients will pop up offering less of a rake, or more options, and market competition will force a race to the bottom and the clients will become free anyway, but then they will need to monetize in another way anyway. Kind of the way robinhood is.

Let’s skip all that and go right to value for value, here are a couple of thoughts I have.

A client could also offer data storage and relay usage, or wallet hosting as a service.

I agree their needs to be monetization for the devs, I’d just like to see some new models emerge from the fact we have instantaneous transmission of a bearer asset at our disposal.
