Today I’m reminded more and more of why custodians will always exist, no matter how easy or convenient it becomes for you to self custody.

There will ALWAYS be a larger percentage of the population that wants their hands held, & they’ll care not about the freedoms they will lose.

To them it’ll be an even exchange, but the few understand that it is never even or close to being fair.

Make personal responsibility great again

as bitcoiners we have a totally different purr-spective than the rest of the world; we're another breed of kitty 🐱

it's impawsible to expect the entire litter to think like us. every cat has its own unique path and purr-eferences.

maybe many will choose a combination of both.

Even in pseudo gold standard, how many people ACTUALLY had full on gold bars on their persons?

Not many id think, a few with some coins maybe but full on bars was a rarity. Owning a UTXO is going to be rare .

You speaking truth brother πŸ—£οΈ

100% agree for the most part.

I am just very hopeful that it becomes easier and easier to self custody as the years pass.

Definitely will become easier and more convenient 10000% yet that won’t matter unfortunately.. not until it’s been 100+ years and the new generation grows up practicing self custy from an early age n it’s all that they know, never once interacted with a financial rail. But then again can we say that will be everyone ? Most likely no.. right because their parents n grandparents will be leading them to some extent.

I’m hopeful as well but also a realist

There was a time when common people would insist on gold or silver coin and save that way. Only merchants used custodians to do large, long-distance transactions. You can think of the unnatural expansion of the banks, aided by legal protections for their fraud, as part of a century-long psyop.

All to say that there is nothing innate about most people’s servility or learned helplessness. New, deserving and natural elites can show the way onward and set the tone for a new culture. Won’t be easy or guaranteed, but the current bad state of things isn’t baked in either.

to your first point would you agree that wasn’t the majority of the world population insisting on gold n silver coins but rather a smaller subset of aware individuals who understood value n credit creation ?

also I’m hopeful this won’t be baked in forever, just aware that in my lifetime they won’t be going away.

My mum loses her car keys at least once a week, and leaves her handbag at the supoermarket at least once a year. When I sent her bitcoin, I literally wrote her seed phrase on a piece of paper and said 'if you lose this you will lose your bitcoin'. She lost it
