Daily reminder: if you do not use AI in some way to learn a new skill or code, you are getting left behind as we speak
Discussion
Whatever
Left behind from what exactly?
from the development in general.
the efficiency to work through projects or learn a new skill that is valuable in the digital age we are entering.
… and then 10 years later “hey ai why are the leftbehinders so capable of thinking for themselves and how did they learn how to do that?”
people that use an AI intelligently and correctly will just save more time than you and learn MORE skills and keep their independent thinking.
Why is time savings so critical?
Time is the most valuable resource we have. More time = more space to get stuff done and be happy
I mean, honestly, that’s the best answer I’ve heard to that question. Usually it’s some corpo speak bullshit about speed in “this market” is critical. So, I appreciate that, at least.
Personally, I don’t think using AI is that critical to success. I do think it can be used well, but I am not a fan of letting it just do things for me. That’s when I notice the most skill atrophy.
AI always gives me false info. I'm pretty sure people using AI are falling behind.
not possible. then you are not using ir right. whats your setup?
mine is :
VSCode with the github copilot extension using the Claude 3.5 model.
load a github documentation of a project inside, and just let it walk you through it. ask questions on how to set it up and use it.
it will write scripts and spit out commands for you to paste into the command line.
It is a turning point.
I think it's still unclear as to what the impact will be. Processing more information more quickly is a benefit. But, I think there will be hidden costs that will surface in the future. Reading comprehension, critical thinking, and synthesis are skills that need to be honed or they are lost.
And, being presented with information that is collected and filtered by opaque algorithms with big tech biases will lead to consensus thinking over truth and is prone to mass manipulation. Seeing the world through that lens is not good for the world.
Pic below is posted somewhat unironically.

absolutely some ‚skills‘ will not used.
for example the reading comprehension.
but same goes for podcast listening. and I am super grateful to process this information trough my ears as than through my eyes.
it is another format to digest information. and since we live in a world where you get bombarded with unwanted info (like on twitter) i welcome every technology that gives me the info efficiently so I save time
