We need someone to volunteer & make an introductory zoom presentation on these features for those who don’t know 🙋🏻‍♀️

Yes. Descriptive tags for relays - country, language, moderation policy, fee structure, community served (if any), then someone will build tools that make it easy for people to find their people.

We do not all need to be connected to everyone. We need to quickly connect with "our group", and after that, if we realise we need to go further, e.g. read a paper, search their pubkey, if if no relays in common, see a selection to join.

Yes, relays are confusing. For example, if I am part of just one relay and that some members are part of another relay, does that mean that we cannot communicate?

What about spam? Why would some spam be on certain relay only? Does that mean that non-spam messages are also limited to certain relays?

🤔

You BOTH have to have ONE (or more) Relays in common.

Spam. So far spammers seem reluctant to pay. So paid relays basically spam free.

The ones run by devs wide open (so the spam comes in) I think a lot of that is to give the devs adverarial stuff on which to practice antispam ideas, all power to them :-)

I think that’s sad.

The Internet can connect all humans on Earth. It was supposed to.

Yet we keep looking for ways to be live in our tiny little echo chambers.

If people have to go out of their way to hear from those outside their circle they won’t.

And if they see all info filtered by a group — that group will eventually use that fact against them.

Instead of finding solutions we keep inventing new ways of reproducing the same old problems.

The Internet can. The Internet does. But individual people do not have the bandwidth to do more than choose which small parts appeal to them. And that is totally their right.

Nostr (and the Internet) enables, but cannot force.

I grew up when international communication was a pen pal. It's better now. Or is it? the ROI in my case was a wife, a friend of one the people I wrote to :-)

Make it not a hassle competes against let the user know what relays are used for, let the user decide.

Good point! We should think domains/topics rather than relays... best SNR will come if AI categorizes all relays and maps their content to categories people want to follow ...or?
