Trying to get into anime but I’m a bit overwhelmed by most of the new ones. I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tanya the Evil. I liked both of those but not sure what to watch next. Any recommendations?

When are we gonna get a beetcoin anime? Someone run a geyser fund for this.

Spirited Away and Ghost in the Shell

I’m not a big anime guy but I watched sword art online and black butler a decade ago, not bad tbh

One Piece, not even close

I mean, if you haven't watched Akira... do that.

The only anime I could ever get into was Attack on Titan. #[0]

If you haven’t seen the original Ghost in the Shell yet, that’s worth your time.

Cowboy Bebop?

Cyberpunk edgerunners.

Please. Thank me later.

Champloo is nice as well

Akira(1998) is a masterpiece

1988*

Yes ser, 36 yo (typo)

It has a billboard in it saying to cancel the 2020 Olympics

I watched Akira. Awesome sauce. Thanks for the recommendation

I just checked out the cyberpunk edge runner show last night—I’d look at ghost in the shell (1995) first

Followed #plebchain

Sounds like Akira and Cyberpunk Edgerunners. I like cyberpunk so a easy sell. Thanks nostriches! 🙏

Some of my all time favorites:

Most of the Studio Ghibli movies

Ranma 1/2

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Psychopass

Ghost in the Shell

Akira

Future Diary

Stein's Gate

Your Name

East of Eden

If you have specific genres you enjoy I can provide more narrow recommendations.

I don’t know yet so kind of bouncing around.

The Ghibil movies are great. I loved loved Valley of the Wind. Howls Moving Castle was good.

I watched several Full Metal Alchemist episodes but wasn’t feeling it. I think I watched a new Ghost in the Shell it was ok.

I really liked Demon King Daimao. Saga of Tonya the evil. Neon Genesis Evangaleon, so weird but great. I’m not sure what genres these would be considered

Nausicaa is my favorite among the Ghibli movies ❤️

I've never actually seen Neon Genesis Evangelion. Just one of those classics that I evaded me.

I'm unfamiliar with the others you mentioned though. Hope you enjoy your dive. I love anime as a medium for storytelling. It gets a bad rep from super fans.

Ok, I watched Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Both good but Akira was better. Ghost in the Shell spent whole 2-3 minutes on scenery and music but when it came to the ending it was like ok time to wrap this up we are out of money. Seemed rushed.

Will check out Cyberpunk now and see if that tickles my fancy

If you want something similar to NGE i recommend either Gurren Lagann or Code Geass.

Depends on your taste. Mine, rationally optimistic and meaningful, jovial vibes. Nothing too uncanny or skeletal.

E.g. FMA and MHA

I’ve also tried S1 Attack on Titan (very popular) an episode or so of One Piece & Naruto, and heard great things about Cowboy Bebop.

If we’re including American “anime”, I’d definitely recommend ATLA as well, along with Young Justice (unless you’re allergic to comics/superheroes) and Spectacular Spiderman, and Over the Garden Wall (super short)

One Piece is low time preference. One episode a day will take almost 3 years to sync with the fan sub chain.

Vinland Saga.
